英語新課程標準，提倡重點培養學生實際運用語言的能力，倡導學生主動參與、樂于探究的學風，培養學生主動分析、解決問題及交流合作的能力。而作業是英語教學的一個重要環節，是課堂教學的延伸和補充。它是教師了解教學目標落實情況和學生知識和技能掌握情況的一種重要方式，對學生的學習起著診斷、鞏固的作用，同時又為教師反思教學、改進教學策略提供了一定的依據。對處于英語學習初級階段的初中生來說，合理設計作業不僅可以幫助他們鞏固、反思和歸納所學知識，還能開闊他們的視野，提高其綜合運用語言知識的能力。

一、提高作業布置的趣味性

傳統教學中，教師習慣于抄抄背背的形式，讓學生單純的抄單詞、抄課文，學生往往只需要機械重復就能夠完成，缺乏對作業的思考，也容易讓學生產生枯燥無趣的感覺，效果較差。教師應當積極改變這種情況，結合中學生好奇心強的特點，努力提高作業的趣味性，以喚起學生內心強烈的學習需求。舉例來說，if引導的條件狀語從句的復合句是中學英語中的一個重點內容，為了鞏固巨型語法，教師可以設計一項“if接龍”的作業模式。也就是說，在前后意思連貫，具有較強的邏輯性這一前提下，學生可以開動腦筋，努力設計一些含有if的故事情節。這種模式不僅能夠鍛煉學生的英語語法，還能夠充分調動起學生豐富的想象力，符合素質教育的方針，能夠讓學生在開闊的思維中提高英語水平。

三、多層次適應學生個體差異

學生在智力水平、心理個性、認知結構、學習基礎、學習動機等方面存在差異，學習能力發展不均衡。因此，教師在布置作業時，應盡量從各層次學生的實際出發，充分考慮每類學生發展區的差異，建立多層次的彈性作業結構，為各類學生設計難易適度的練習，讓學生根據自己的學習能力及興趣自由地選擇，使每個學生通過不同難度、不同數量的作業練習，在原有的基礎上均有提高，都能享受到成功的喜悅，擁有更大的自主發展空間。如果作業設計既新穎靈動，又適合學生的能力水平和經驗，學生通常會覺得這項作業是有價值、有意義的，會非常投入，高效率地完成。而對于那些他們覺得沒有意義的作業，常常持敷衍態度。

四、設計激勵性作業

《英語課程標準》（實驗稿）要求在學習過程進行情感和策略調整。以形成積極的學習態度。促進語言實際運用能力的提高。設計激勵性作業，有助于培養學生積極主動的學習態度。 讓學生“錄制磁帶”，進行評價，這樣的課外作業對學生的學習起達到了一定的激勵作用。語感是從不間斷的朗讀中潛移默化而來的，優美的語言、動聽的語調，離不開經常性地反復聽錄音，但單調機械的重復聽讀很容易使學生產生厭倦心理。這時如果讓學生模仿課文進行朗讀并錄下自己的聲音，學生就會三番五次、不厭其煩地練習，不用老師號召就能達到最佳的教學效果。老師在每次聽完學生作業后，錄上一些自己的評語加以繆正，提出要求，進行鼓勵。會使學生更樂于接受，師生間的距離便無形間地縮短了。激勵性的評價可以讓學生體會到成功的喜悅，從而激發了學生的學習動力。

五、師生結合評價作業

作業評價要改變以往的以教師為主的評價方式，讓學生也參與到其中。教師可以將學生分成小組，組內成員進行作業的互評，這樣能及時輔導到每個學生。當學生遇到一些不能把握的題目，教師要予以幫助，為學生進行講解，爭取讓每一個人都能有所收獲；對于有些愛鉆牛角尖的學生，教師不能生硬地否決他們對某些知識的認識，而是要深入淺出，細致地進行講解，這樣才能避免學生下次犯相同的錯誤。

總之，為了保證學生按時完成作業，教師需要追根求源，分析問題成因，包括學生自身因素與教學因素，尤其是后者。不少教師側重書面作業，形式單一，標準統一，忽略了學生的興趣與個性差異，致使部分學生厭煩作業。教師應科學指導，精心設計，從學生的興趣愛好入手，實現作業的多樣化、趣味化，增加口頭作業、實踐類作業，讓學生樂于作業，按時完成；考慮個體差異，注意作業的梯度性、層次性、適量性，讓學生主動作業，獨立作業；注重個別輔導，多元化評價，合作探究，學生相互督促，相互啟發。
