自從英語教學在中國大規模開展以來，關于英語教學法的研究和探索就從來沒有中斷過。隨著改革開放的步伐不斷加快，國外各種各樣新的教學法陸續被引進過來，大開了國人的眼界，為教學改革注入了新鮮活力，其中一些教學法對我國不同時期的英語教學，產生過較大的影響，起過積極的作用。但由于種類繁多，更新速度太快，有時使用不當，難免會讓人有無所適從的感覺。我國對于外語教學法的研究起步晚，主要是照搬外國的教學法。語法翻譯法是最古的一種教學法，它強調讀寫，不重視聽說，教學效果不理想，因而受到批判。在此基礎上出現了直接法和聽說法，這兩種教學方法從一個極端走向另一個極端，強調聽說而不重視讀寫，教學效果也不理想，因此也受到批判。于是出現了認知法，這種教學法實際上是對語法翻譯法的改良，它又回到了強調讀寫而不重視聽說的老路上，因此不可避免地也受到了批判。于是又出現了視聽法和交際法。這兩種教學法又從重讀寫回到了重聽說的老路上。由此可以看到，外國教學法并沒有解決英語教學上的聽、說、寫的關系問題。我們照搬外國英語教學法的結果，使我國英語教學出現兩種傾向：一種是強調讀寫輕視聽說，其結果學的是啞吧英語；另一種是強調聽說，輕視讀寫，其結果培養出來的學生提筆不會寫，英文書報看不懂，實際上是英文盲。因此在英語教學法上沒有所謂的權威和萬能的方法，天下沒有一種教學方法，是在任何地點，任何時候，對任何教師和任何學生都能起作用的。在理論上無懈可擊的“最佳”教學法層出不窮，但是真正運用時常常達不到預期的效果，必須根據實際來選擇教學法。

我國英語教學的實際情況是在漢語環境下學習英語，兩種語言在語音、詞匯、語法、句子的意念和形式上存在巨大差異，要求記憶的東西很多，比起其他以拼音文字為母語的國家的人來說，我們學習英語難度要更大，在英語教學中更需要重視語言學習規律，更需要講究方法。從外國引入的再優秀的教學法，如果只求囫圇吞棗的機械照搬，不結合中國實際情況、自己教學的實際情況揚棄創新，研究實際操作性，那么再好的教學法最后都會成為制約我們英語教學發展進程的障礙。因此，對于英語教師來說，沒有什么是最好的教學法，只有不斷探索最適合我們英語教育實際的教學法，并且這種最適合的教學法也不會一成不變的，它會隨著教學的發展、學生的變化、教師教學水平提高而變化。正所謂“教有法，但無定法”，只要我們不斷總結教學中的經驗，對各種教學法進行取長補短，相信我們的英語教學終將得倒完善。更何況同樣一種教學法，對于不同的對象也會起到不同的作用。我們知道，目前在我國學英語的人，從幼兒園、小學、中學、大學的學校教育，到業余的社會教育，學英語的對象千差萬別，學習的目的和要求也大相徑庭，所以說任何一種方法都不會起到萬能的作用。

首先讓我們先來看一下我們的大學英語教學。大學英語教學又可分為英語專業和非英語專業兩部分，它們的英語教學法也不盡相同。其中英語專業英語課的教學又因具體課程不同而方法不同，英語課分類較細。主要有語音、聽力、口語、精讀、泛讀、寫作、翻譯等。英語專業主要培養具有熟練英語運用能力并熟練掌握語言知識的綜合型英語人才。英語教學中口語課一般采用交際法或叫功能法，重視句型操練，模擬現實生活中的片斷進行語言功能訓練和情景交流訓練。而精讀課教學主要采用閱讀原文，分析詞匯、句子、課文結構等語言知識，在讀懂課文的基礎上利用課文進行聽、說、讀、寫、譯的練習。此法借鑒了傳統的語法翻譯法和認知法等教學法，重視詞匯、句法等語言知識在語言學習中的作用。近年來，非英語專業英語教學大綱（本科）要求培養學生的閱讀能力、一定的聽說寫譯能力；要求高職高專院校學生具有基本語言知識和技能，具有閱讀和翻譯與本專業有關英文資料的初步能力，并為進一步提高英語應用能力打下基礎。兩種院校在教學上與英語專業英語課教學的要求不同。相似之處是，聽說教學需要借鑒傳統的交際法、聽說法等，注重模擬現實生活進行語言功能訓練和情景交流訓練，但非英語專業更注重閱讀與翻譯訓練。總之，非英語專業英語教學需要借鑒多種傳統方法以培養既有一定技能又有一定英語知識的綜合英語實用人才。

其次，讓我們再來看看我國中小學的英語教學情況。小學英語教學主要培養小學生掌握最基本的英語聽說讀寫語言能力，以聽說為重點，在聽說讀寫中認識掌握語音、詞匯、句子等最基本的語言知識；初中英語教學要求繼續提高英語聽說能力，以閱讀為重點，在閱讀中學習詞匯、句子等語言知識，在閱讀基礎上練習簡單的寫作；高中則堅持聽說練習，在閱讀基礎上重點練習寫作，也可適當作一些簡單的翻譯。小學、初中和高中都需要在聽說讀寫譯的練習中掌握一定的詞法、句法等語言知識。因此要達到中小學英語教學大綱的要求，培養學生具有基本聽說讀寫譯語言能力和一定的語言知識，教師在教學中一般需要借鑒多種傳統教學法，采用綜合性的教學法，借助書本、磁帶、光盤等多種教學材料。

最后讓我們看一下社會業余英語教學采用的教學方法。 首先看一下李陽的“瘋狂英語”教學法。此法借鑒了傳統的直接法、聽說法等方法，強調句型的操練，培養聽說能力，并希望以口語帶動閱讀、寫作和翻譯。再有中央電視臺舉辦的電視教學節目“跟大山學英語”、“洋話連篇”，以及“走遍美國”等教學材料，大都是根據實際生活場景拍攝制作的視聽說教材，這些教材都借鑒了多種傳統教學法，如直接法、聽說法、視聽法等編寫制作，以促使教師利用交際法培養學生的視聽說能力。

以上是我國各個層次英語教學及英語教學法使用的普遍情況，但這并不意味著選擇好的教學法就能讓教學中存在的問題迎刃而解。因為在教學活動中，人是主體，教學法并不能解決一切問題。教師的作用在于幫助學生學習，要教給學生知識，更重要的是要培養學生獲取知識的能力。一位英語教學法專家說過，“外語是學會的，而不是教會的?！弊鳛橐幻⒄Z教師，不僅要引導學生“學會”，更重要的是引導他們“會學”。英語教師選擇有效的教學法進行教學實踐，從這種意義上來說，教學法只是幫助教師達到教學目的一種工具，因此不可過分依賴教學法。教學過程中，“學”的環節是重中之重，要解決好這一環節的問題，必須對作為學習主體的學生有所研究，光靠教學法這一個工具是遠遠不夠的。

同時我們還要注意到，同樣一種教學法不僅不適用所有的學生，也未必適用所有的教師。因為任何一種教學方法都要通過教師的具體教學來實施，教師是教學法的應用人。我們知道，每個教師的性格、特點、知識結構各不相同，所以有的教學法，一位教師運用起來得心應手，效果顯著，而另一位教師運用起來可能就別別扭扭，難以奏效。不同的教師在教學上各有各的強項，也各有各的弱點，對同一種教學法的理解不會完全相同，在運用過程中都會自覺不自覺的趨強避弱，形成各自的特點，這種特點在各種教學法的組合運用上表現的更加明顯，這就是教師教學個性的體現。比如，有的教師性格外向，在課堂上以其強烈的活力與熱情感染學生；而另一些教師沉穩持重，更善于以其淵博的學識吸引學生。盡管他們的風格不一樣，但是同樣可以教好學生，同樣受學生的歡迎。

所以說，沒有一個單一的完美的教學法。作為英語教師，我們應該結合自身的特點，針對自己不同的教學對象，綜合各種有效的教學法，并且積極有效地參與到教學法的實施與改革中，使之更好地為我們服務。若得其法則事半功倍，不得其法則事倍功半。
