MadamPresident,Mr.Secretary-General,Excellencies,ladiesandgentlemen,

Istandbeforeyou,deeplytouchedandinspiredbyyourgenerouswordsofcongratulationsandencouragement.WithboundlessgratitudefortheconfidenceplacedinmebytheMemberStates,andwithanunswervingresolvetohonorthattrust,Ihumblyaccepttheappointmentasthe8thSecretary-GeneralofthisgreatOrganization,ourUnitedNations.IwishtoextendmydeepestrespectandappreciationtoalltheleadersandpeoplesoftheMemberStatesfortheirstrongsupport.

TheUNisneedednowmorethaneverbefore.TheUN’scoremissioninthepreviouscenturywastokeepcountriesfromfightingeachother.Inthenewcentury,thedefiningmandateistostrengthentheinter-statesystemsothathumanitymaybebetterservedamidstnewchallenges.Weneedcompetentandresponsiblestatestomeettheneedsof“Wethepeople”forwhomtheUNwascreated.Andtheworld’speoplewillnotbefullyservedunlesspeace,developmentandhumanrights,thethreepillarsoftheUN,areadvancedtogetherwithequalvigor.

IearnestlyhopethatyoungboysandgirlsoftodaywillgrowupknowingthattheUNisworkinghardtobuildabetterfutureforthem.AsSecretary-General,Iwillembracetheirhopesandheartheirappeals.Iamanoptimist,andIamfullofhopeaboutthefutureofourglobalOrganization.LetusworktogetherforaUNthatcandelivermoreandbetter.

主席女士、秘書(shū)長(zhǎng)先生、諸位閣下、女士們、先生們：

站在你們面前，我為你們那祝賀與鼓勵(lì)的慷慨話(huà)語(yǔ)而深深感動(dòng)，各成員國(guó)給予了我信心，我對(duì)此不盡感激，我將堅(jiān)定不移地尊重這份信任，謙恭地接受這一任務(wù)，成為聯(lián)合國(guó)這一偉大組織的第八任秘書(shū)長(zhǎng)。我希望向各成員國(guó)的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)和人民致以最誠(chéng)摯的敬意，并感謝他們對(duì)我的強(qiáng)有力的支持。

聯(lián)合國(guó)比以往任何時(shí)候都顯得更重要。在上一個(gè)世紀(jì)，聯(lián)合國(guó)的核心任務(wù)是防止國(guó)與國(guó)之間的沖突斗爭(zhēng)。在新世紀(jì)里，聯(lián)合國(guó)最主要的任務(wù)就是在新的挑戰(zhàn)之下，加強(qiáng)國(guó)際秩序以更好地服務(wù)于人類(lèi)。我們需要有能力的、有責(zé)任感的國(guó)家來(lái)攜手滿(mǎn)足“我聯(lián)合國(guó)人民”的需求，聯(lián)合國(guó)正是為這些人群而創(chuàng)立的。只有當(dāng)和平、發(fā)展、人權(quán)這聯(lián)合國(guó)的三大支柱都能得到同樣積極的推進(jìn)時(shí)，我們才能充分地為世界人民服務(wù)。

我誠(chéng)摯地希望今天的年輕一代能茁壯成長(zhǎng)，并知道聯(lián)合國(guó)正努力為他們創(chuàng)造更加美好的未來(lái)。作為秘書(shū)長(zhǎng)，我將接納他們的愿望，聆聽(tīng)他們的需要。我是一個(gè)樂(lè)觀的人，我對(duì)我們這一全球組織的未來(lái)充滿(mǎn)希望。讓我們一起努力，讓聯(lián)合國(guó)可以作出更多更好的貢獻(xiàn)。
